After fruitful deliberations, the UNION MONDIALE DE BILLARD and the KOREAN BILLIARDS FEDERATION, set aside their differences of opinion in favor of a continued mutual stable relationship and in the benefit of the Sport.

Both parties are confident that this step will mark an end to an unfortunate arisen conflict and the start of a renewed beneficial mutual long-term relationship.

                                                                         Merckx becomes first  3CC Master

SEOUL. Eddy Merckx has won the first edition of the 3CC World Masters in Seoul. In a very one-sided final, he was head and shoulders better than his fellow Belgian Eddy Leppens: 57-19. Both players were given 20 identical positions to score from, so defense was taken out of the equation. Merckx did not only handle the balls better, he also proved he dealt well with the added pressure of a big first prize: 40.000 dollar to the winner, half of that amount to the loser.

Merckx created the gap in the 3d, 4th and 5th inning, when he ran 7, 5 and 3 to lead 18-6. Leppens could never get going, had a high run of only 2 and had to watch how Merckx added 6, 9 and 3 in the final three

The two semifinals on Sunday could not have been more different. Leppens and Tasdemir fought a

high-quality battle where scoring was the theme. Tasdemir had many small runs of 4, 5 and 6 in innings where Leppens only scored 1 or missed. But the Belgian made up for it with three formidable innings where he ran 10, 11 and 8. Final score: 52-46 to Leppens.

In the other semi, the computer-generated positions were extremely unkind to the players. Inning after inning,

one or two balls were frozen to the rail. Merckx dealt best with the frustration and saw his opponent Quyet Chien Tran from Vietnam crumble under the pressure: 26-13.

Looking smart in his champion’s jacket, Merckx said: “I thought this new format was not made for me, and now I have won the first tournament. I am very happy with it.”

  1. Eddy Merckx 40.000 $
  2. Eddy Leppens 20.000 $
  3. Quyet Chien Tran 15.000 $
  4. Tayfun Tasdemir 15.000 $

The best match was played by Marco Zanetti: 70 points. The high run was made by Murat Naci Coklu: 16.
