Therese Klompenhouwer is back on the throne.

 Cartagena ,September 25th 2025.

The five-time ladies world champion has added a sixth title to her resume. In Cartagena, Spain, she won the final in a high-quality battle with Korea’s Ha Eun Kim, who is a giant promise for the future. After an early lead for Kim, the match went mostly neck and neck. Klompenhouwer had the coolest head and the steadiest hands in the final stretch: 30-25 in 27/26.

2024 was a horrible year for the Dutch lady: a shoulder injury ruined her game for quite some time and she lost her Dutch, European and world titles. But she has recovered well she says, and 2025 will be different. Therese’s tournament was steady without fireworks, but she was tested in rather close matches against Buelens (25-22) and Mavridoglou (30-26). Her mental strength was on display against the talented young Korean Ha Eun Kim, who played extremely well in the first few innings and rubbed some salt in the wounds with a few lucky points. Klompenhouwer didn’t flinch and had a much better sprint to the finish line than Kim. The Korean player made an impression though, and her name will be heard in years to come.

The semifinals were unremarkable: Klompenhouwer had an easy encounter with Thi Lien Nguyen (30-13 in 39/38), and Ha Eun Kim defeated her Korean compatriot Bo Mi Choi: 30-22 in 36.

Final ranking:

1.   Klompenhouwer 0.955

2.   Ha Eun Kim 0.816

3.   Bo Mi Choi 0.713

4.   Thi Lien Nguyen 0.574

The tournament average (K.O. stage) was 0.645.

The high general average was played by Klompenhouwer: 0.955.

The best match average was also played by Klompenhouwer: 1.500.

The tournament high run was shared by Klompenhouwer and Jetten: 8.

Tomorrow is the start of the Juniors (u22) event, played in the same venue in Cartagena. All matches available on Soop.

Cartagena , September 24th 2025.

Klompenhouwer can almost smell a sixth title.

Three Asian players reached the semifinals of the world championship 3-cushion for Ladies in Cartagena, but the one European player in the last four is the favorite: Therese Klompenhouwer.

The five-time world champion from Blaricum, the Netherlands is on a mission to get her European and world titles back. She was tested once again, this time in the round of 16, by Litsa Mavridoglou. The Greek even had a 26-21 lead, but eventually lost 26-30.

Another tough opponent awaited in the quarterfinal: Karina Jetten. The life partner of Roland Forthomme booked a historic win over Klompenhouwer in the Dutch championships recently, but this time she was outclassed: 30-11 in 20. That was also the best match of the tournament so far.
