24TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 5-PINS INDIVIDUAL OPEN
Pistoia, October 20th 2019.
A roar and standing ovation at Palacarrara were the sign that a new World Champion was born: Ciro Davide Rizzo won the 24th World Championship 5-pins Individual Open in Pistoia. The result 4 to 1 for Rizzo to Santi Caratozzolo underlines a very good shape of the first one who reached the last 8 beating Gustavo Torregiani with a final score of 4-0 first, and then overcame Marcolin 4-2.
Santi Caratozzolo, the silver medal, suffered a bit the game of Rizzo: after winning the first set 63-53, he seemed not to be able to enter the game losing 40-61, 26-62, 37-60, 34-6161-34.
Third place for Paolo Marcolin and Paolo Spadaro.
The award ceremony, broadcast live on Raisport tv channel, saw the participation of Mister Fernando Requena, Andrea Mancino President pf Italian Federation, Alessandro Tomasi Mayor of Pistoia and took place in a stadium atmosphere with about one thousand spectators.
Other relevant events was in Pistoia , the commented general Assembly of the W.C.B.S. and the agreement of UMB and Gorina Cloth to extended to the end of 2021 their cooperation , Gorina continues as official Cloth and partner in five Pins of the Unión Mondiale de billard .
The five Pins continues their way to extend the game , the numbers are interesting , more 1.000 players has been play for getting 16 places in the final tournament, 17 countries involved, all days Palacetto of sports was complete , the full promotion with RAI 2 Sport and Billiard Channel FIBIS in You Tube broadcasting all match. A new page of sport has been written today in Pistoia. As often happens international competition such as World Championship can reveal unexpected turn of events. The 24th WC 5-pins Individual open is now at the last step. And it speaks Italian: Ciro Davide Rizzo, Santi Caratozzolo, Paolo Marcolin and Paolo Spadaro are the names of the four finalists that tomorrow will play for the world title.
Rizzo has been the first of the last 4. His unscrupulous play prevail on the technique and style of the Argentine Gustavo Torregiani. 4-0 the final result.
A wonderful Santi Caratozzolo conquered the semifinal 4-3 beating one of the favorite of this Championship, Andrea Quarta (ITA). This last came to the last 8 after a suffered match against Matteo Gualemi. The effort was not enough and some mistakes made the difference between the two players.Paolo Marcolin defeated the only Argentine still in the race Josè Oliva, showing strength of character. Last but not least the outsider, arrived here from the qualifications in Milan last month, Paolo Spadaro showed coldness and precision to hit the balls. Besides his ability and victory 4-1, let's underline also the respect to his adversary: he bows to David Martinelli at the end the game.
The path to the final day was not easy at all. Two facts have to be mentioned.
In the last 16 the current World Champion Alejandro Martinotti (ARG) had no chance in the challenge with David "the king" Martinelli (ITA) after a 4-3 that has rewarded the best resistant to stress. Daniel Lopez (ITA) has incredibly suffered the French Maxime Jublot who closed the match 4-0 showing a great play.
The game between Matteo Gualemi (ITA) and Toni Rosenberg (GER) was a mix of incredible and unexpected as well as thrilling. The Italian won 4-3 but the endgame is definitely one for the record books: Rosenberg lost 8 points at the matchpoint by a very serious mistake for sure due to lack of experience, on which Gualemi took advantage.
DAY 3
marked the turning point of the 24th World Championship 5-pins Individual Open in progress in Pistoia.
Besides the “usual suspects”, surprises were not missing on the blue tables at PalaCarrara: have a look at the last 32 and draw your conclusions!
The 18th session of the WORLD CONFEDERATION OF BILLIARDS SPORTS committee will take place in Pistoia coinciding with the development of the five-pins world championships that are held in Palacetto de PalaCarrara, the ordinary general assembly will also be held at the international billiard federation .
The WCBS committee is composed of members of the three international billiard federations, that of the Union Mondiale billiard carom that includes the five Pins , the Pool representing by World Pool Associaton and the Snooker, by the International Billiard and Snooker Federation, its top representatives will be present in Pistoia for this meeting that will take place throughout the day at the Hotel Villa Capuggi.
The WCBS is headquartered in Lausanne and is the body that represents all billiard styles before ARISF, WADA and the International Olympic Committee since the inclusion of billiards as a sport recognized by the CIO in 1998.
DAY TWO
October 17th , 2019.
Second day of competions has gone with 96 matches played. Yesterday was the derby day, today it happened that in two moments all the nine tables were occupied by the thirteen Italian athletes against the fourteen Argentine ones, a sort of ITA vs ARG.
To be mentioned the match between the current WC Martinotti vs the Italian Rocco Summa: the Italian athlete arrived here to Pistoia from the qualifications and it seemed not to be enough concentrated at the beginning, but then, at set 3 something changed in his mind, like switching an input, and a new direction was taken, set after set get the victorious fifth set.
DAY ONE.
Today the 24th World Championship of 5 pins has been inaugurated in the Palacetto de Palacarrara in Pistoia (ITA) with the presence of the authorities , Alessandro Tomasithe mayor of the Comune de Pistoia and of the 64 players who participate in this edition come frome 17 countries.
Fernando Requena has dedicated some emotional words in his official opening for the FIBIS and the Commune of Pistoia and for the participating players.

24th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 5-PINS INDIVIDUAL OPEN: - 7 DAYS TO PISTOIA 2019
-7 days to go to Pistoia2019. And Then the city in Tuscany will be the capital of the 24th World Championship 5-pins individual open.
The PalaCarrara sport arena will host nine tables where 64 athletes from Europe and South America will meet: 16 athletes from qualifications and 48 convened by the various participating federations according to internal criteria established. With Italy these will be the ones contending for the title won by the Argentine Alejandro Martinotti in Necochea in 2017.
The 64 athletes will be divided into 8 rounds, the best four from each round will go on to compose the 32nd draw.
The Italian Federation has done its job and the local organizer has performed the tasks.
Raisport, the Italian sports TV channel, launched in 1999 by the state-owned RAI television network (broadcasting Italian and international sports events in Italy on DTT channel 57 on Rai 2) will guarantee TV coverage.
The World Championship will start on Oct. 16 with the opening ceremony at 10.00 am. Sunday 20 October will be the final day and the 2019 World Champion will be proclaimed.
