In Memoriam Nestor Gomez

It is with great sadness in our heart that we inform our Members that Nestor Gomez is no longer among us.

The Union Mondiale de Billard expresses its condolences to the Family, Friends and the close Billiards Community, and wishes them strength and resignation in the acceptance of this loss.

Milan, 25/01/2018.

Today is a sad day for Billiards. The legendary Nestor Gomez died at the age of 76. Born in Necochea, Argentina, Gomez wrote some of the most important moments in the history of this sport. From the first titles from very young in Argentina to the world and international ones conquered during his glorious career. A timeless champion who was an example and a master for many today's champions.

Gomez has divided his competitive activity and his life between Argentina and Italy, where he lived for years, contributing to the development and growth of the game both at home and in our country. His palmares recites 18 titles of Argentine National Champion, two World Champion titles won in 1980 and 1982, 5 Intercontinental Cups, a European Team Championship in 2006, an Italian Team Championship in 2007, two Italian Champion titles at Couples with his son Camilo conquered in 2015 and 2016.

His last big statement came in June 2017 with the victory in the first edition of the Italian Seniors Championship. In October of the same year Argentina wanted to organize in his honor the World Championship held in his Necochea. A tribute to an absolute champion that will be remembered forever by all billiard lovers.

The President Andrea Mancino and the Federal Councilors join the pain of the Gomez family and announce that during the final phase of the Second Round of the Italian Championship in Spoleto a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the unforgettable Nestor Gomez.

The funeral will be held tomorrow, January 26 from 11 am to the parish of San Pietro Apostolo in Scafati (Salerno).
