Again the legend of the world championship continues and in each edition since 2003 the title changes hands.
Martinotti in a spectacular Sunday beat quarters to his compatriot Emanuelle in a game where he always walked behind except in the final moments, beat Quarta in the semifinals and Agnello in the grand final where he put the finishing touch to a spectacular championship.

Today, Saturday, will mark the start in Necochea of the battles for the Medals. Matches with direct elimination, played to 7 sets of 60 points. The best players of the tournament, after the qualification rounds in the group stage, are now ready to enter the challenge. The K.O phase starts today with the 16th-finals, followed by the 8th-finals, leaving the quarter-final, semi-final and grand-final for tomorrow, Sunday.
The audience, the enthusiastic public, that in previous sessions covered all seats in the “Club Atlético Rivadavia”, already reserved their seats for the first session. An experienced and involved public, supporting and encouraging the Argentine players. Continuous ovations and unmistaken signs that the public is enjoying every moment of the Championship.

Emotion and an organization determined by perfection to the smallest details, aiming for everybody’s satisfaction. A great public expectation from the city of Nicochea, with its 100.000 inhabitants, belonging to the Buenos Aires Area, lovers of billiards of the highest level.
48 players will enter the competition, starting from tomorrow, Wednesday, in a draw over 8 groups of six players, composed of 40 seeded players and 8 qualifiers, 6 from Argentina and 2 from Italy: MASCIA, CORTEZ,OLIVA, BOMBILLANI, MOSCATELLI, EMANUELE,CONDE, ZEPERIZZA.
Famous players, like Quarta, Agnello, Torregiani, Gualemi and of course the local hero’s “Nene” Gomez, twice World Champion, and his son Camilo with whom he conquered the National Italian title for couples, will deploy the best of their ability into a challenge to the favorites to the title.
In the UMB-Carom web page, under “Sports area/active events”, you will find the group results that will lead to the final draw of the best 32 players that will further compete for the World title in an exciting Knock Out system.

- The lawyer Mauricio Coronel, 52 years old, presides for 2,5 years, the “Club Atletico Rivadavia” in Necochea, that includes the 5-pins billiards among its multiple disciplines. The popularity of this club is due to the three 5-pins world titles obtained. His passion for 5-pins, a legacy from his father (picture) , made him travel to Europe to the World Championship of Milan with this project objective that is in the last stage of development.
- Why did Necochea adop the Project for this World Championship?
It appears to be led by a mystical force from the club that already organized two World Championships, and as a tribute to the sports cradle of the Nestor Member, “Nene” Gomez, who made it possible that many Citizens of Necochea took a cue in their hands for the first time and are still practicing their sports with great passion.
Our club, founded 104 years ago, adopted three disciplines, Soccer, Basket-Ball and 5-Pins billiards, reason why the Club emblem includes 3 stars.
Another source of inspiration came from those who did not support the project, minimizing it and considering it ridiculous, to whom I am grateful for their hostile behavior that enforced me to persevere and not get discouraged.
- Time flies! During the past two years, many persons and institutions were implicated in this Project. Which persons and entities are on the first line of support for this event?
The first line of support has been provided by the Club Secretary, Juan Carbone, the Unit Manager Miguel Correa, our Member Jessica Fernandez, Martin Mariño “Teguy” Zufratieguy, Hugo Prieto, Mariano Carbone, Marcelo Diaz Cabrera,Players like Ingenieri, Filippi, Dario Emanuelle, Guillermo Barberia, Camilo Gomez, directives like Torregiani, Santilli, Moscatelli y Clubs like “el Pesca”, accommodation and independent club of Loberia, as well as the FAAB in General.
The Mayor of Necochea, Facundo Lopez, was very much involved in this project that he joined immediately.
Argentina is a world power in the 5-pins discipline. The rivalry with Uruguay and Italy is very strong. The current situation is that they believe that they are the Favorites.
I understand that there are natural Favorites, such as Italy and Argentina, the latter not only for the game, but mostly because in Necochea it is played with passion and with a long of history, the player is not alone at the table, there are many viewers, there is atmosphere of competition, all the Necochenses know the discipline. Here, not only the good stroke is applauded, the spectators slap on the table ... It vibrates ... it perspires ... play positions are imaginary woven in the minds of spectators and they discuss billiards ... there is human warmth …
