Joy on her face, and also a bit of disbelief. Charlotte Sörensen from Denmark is the 2024 women’s world champion, after she beat Therese Klompenhouwer in a high-class final: 30-29 in 27/26. The Dutch woman, five times world champion already, was the big favorite. But Sörensen showed in the final how much she has grown in a short few years. A pupil of Tony Carlsen, she is the real deal and she has not peaked yet.
Nhi Hoangyen Nguyen was the surprise semifinalist from Vietnam, but she was overpowered by Sörensen: 30-15 in 32/31. It is obvious though, that Vietnam will join Korea in the march for women’s 3-cushion. Asia has what Europe so desperately wants: younger players.
In the other, fully Dutch semi, Karina Jetten kept up beautifully with Klompenhouwer, but Therese had the sharp finish: 30-22 in 21. Just last week, it was Jetten with a surprise win over Klompenhouwer in the Predator Grand Prix Ladies, this week their usual order was restored.
The final was a match where dominance flipped from one player to the other: Klompenhouwer had a 14-6 lead but Sörensen ran 8. Later in the match, Sörensen was ahead 28-18 but then Klompenhouwer ran 8! It was easily one of the best ladies finals we have seen, and Sörensen’s match point was far from easy, an exclamation point on her tournament.
Charlotte Sörensen wins the 10.000 Euro first prize and a ticket for the World Games in China next year.

Blois , September 11th , 2024
At the end of an exciting second day in the World Championship 3-cushion for women, the four semifinalists are known. Charlotte Sörensen from Denmark, Nhi Hoangyen Nguyen from Vietnam, Therese Klompenhouwer and Karina Jetten from the Netherlands.
Sörensen had an easy win (30-18 in 48) over Austria’s Helga Mitterbock, then eliminated the best player from the group stage Jeong Hyeon Park in the quarterfinals 30-26 in 36.
Nhi Hoangyen Nguyen started her campaign in the K.O. stage with a win over Gülsen Degener (30-20 in 37/36). Her quarterfinal against Jacqueline Perez was a thriller: 30-29 in 48/47.
Karina Jetten got past Korea’s Ha Eun Kim in the last 16 (30-27 in 41), then took on Estela Cardoso from Spain and booked a second clear win: 30-21 in 45.
The five-time champion Therese Klompenhouwer had no trouble seeing off France’s Magali Declunder: 30-13 in 30/29. A key match followed, against Japan’s Yuko Nishimoto, won by the Dutch woman 30-24 in 36.
Tomorrow’s semifinals:
Sörensen – Nguyen
Klompenhouwer – Jetten.
All matches can be viewed on Afreeca TV. The tournament will be directly followed by the World Championships for Juniors under 22 (from 13-15 September).

Lausanne , September 7th 2024
From 10 – 15 September, the French Billiard Federation (FFB) will join forces with the CEB and the UMB for an event that will give us new world champions in 3-cushion for women and juniors under 22.
In the women’s tournament, Lee Shin Young will not be defending her title. Former multiple world champion Therese Klompenhouwer is an obvious favorite, but the field has seasoned players like Gülsen Degener, Karina Jetten, Yuko Nishimoto, Charlotte Sörensen and others.
The juniors play according to the same format, with eight groups of three. Turkiye and Korea are strongly represented, but Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Greece are in the mix. Myeong Gyu Oh is the title holder.
The tables in Blois (France) are Chevillotte, the cloth is ClassOne B2 Black and the balls are Dynaspheres. The women will play to 25 points in the group, 30 points in the K.O. For the juniors under22 the distances are 25 and 35 points.
