Belgium, by the hand of Frédéric Caudrón and Eddy Merckx, conquered its fourth consecutive world title in the World Championship for national teams held in Viersen last weekend. The Belgians closed this edition with impressive figures; the best general team average of 1,968 and the best tournament player, Frédéric Caudrón, with a general average of 2,506.
Korea was the brilliant runner-up and winner of the silver medal, which could only be topped in the “Scotch Double”, 15-11 in just three innings, with a strong team formed by Jae Ho Cho and Jung-Han Heo. The Netherlands and Turkey won the bronze medals after they were unable to emulate the “Scotch Doublé” against Korea and Belgium respectively.
As is customary in Viersen, the audience stood passionately by the 23 participating selections and the organizing Committee, the DBU and the town of Viersen hosted a vibrant championship. The future organizer of this annual must-see event will have to be determined in the following months when the UMB will decide between the applicants of the various confederations and federations.
