Who will win the diamond cue in Antwerp?

• Ludo Dielis, organizer, Nele Bouchier representative of AWDC, Ludo Van Campenhout, representative of the City of Antwerp and President of the organizing comité and former Minister of Finances of the Flemish Government, Dirk Van Mechelen Two weeks before the start of the World Three-Cushion Championship in Antwerp (October 16th to 20th), a second press conference has been held during which the special prize for the championship’s winner has been exhibited.

The prize is a high-standard cue decorated with 80 small diamonds, offered by the Antwerp World Diamond Center.

In the meantime, the organization is ready to host 48 players who will compete in 16 groups of 3. Each winner of the group will play from Saturday on into the 1/8 finals in a knock-out form.

On Saturday and Sunday, Belgian Television Sporza will broadcast the matches. The final will also be broadcast on Eurosport on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.

The organizing Committee led by the experienced hand of Mr. Ludo Dielis, 7-time World Champion, and the President of the organizing Comittee Mr. Dirk Van Mechelen, former Minister of Finance of the Flemish Region, has found a strong support in the City of Antwerp nominated the European Capital of Sport for 2013.

The tournament will take place in the famous Lotto Arena, a basketball hall that can host more than 5,000 people, which  will be transformed for the occasion to a venue with approximately 1,250 seats.

Title defender Eddy Merckx will open the World Championship with a match against his fellow countryman Peter Ceulemans. Each day, all of the matches will start at 2 p.m. local time and can be followed in live streaming at Kozoom.com.

Again a strong battle between the European and Asian representatives is to be expected, leaving American players as outsiders.
