Marco Zanetti Captures Gold at The World Games, Eddy Merckx Takes Silver.

The World Games have drawn to a close with an enormous success; 3-cushion billiards played a major role once again and stood out throughout the Games with spectacular matches drawing large crowds that filled up the venue each match day.

The semi-finals yielded both finalists when Zanetti defeated Kim 40/25 in 15 innings and Merckx won from Hoffman by 40-22 in 22 innings. The bronze medal was won by Glen Hoffman who beat K.R. Kim 40/15 in 13 innings. So the European Champion and the World Champion were to compete for the coveted Gold medal in a very technical and very deftly played match, which in the end turned out in favour (40/20 in 16 inning)  of the Italian Marco Zanetti  while the Belgian Eddy Merckx  linched a spectacular season with the Silver medal.

All members of the organization under the direction of the Technical Delegate of the WCBS, Farouk El Barki, and the local Technical Delegate, Jorge Aldana, delivered excellent work.

 The next World Games will be held in Poland in 2017. Pool is very popular throughout this country and we trust that Billiards will yet again display its potential and attractiveness as a sport to the world.
