Already during the matches in the groups it has been clarified that the Japanese players where not only good represented in quantity but soon it was established that they would add a qualitative element to the championship. The surprise of the qualifying rounds was to find in the elimination of the current champion Orie Hida who failed to win her match from Karina Jetten with one point. Turkish Gülsen Degener was also not able to reach the ¼ final.
The ¼ finales have been a real confrontation between Japan and “the rest of the world” in this case two players from Korea and two from the Netherlands. By pure coincidence and following the results of the qualifying rounds the four Japanese girls have been opposed each against Karina Jetten, Therese Klompenhouwer, Ji Park and Su Park.
The final result of this “battle” was a clear 4-0 in favor of Japan.
During the semi-finales Yuko Nishimoto and Natsumi Higaschiuchi played in a very dominant way there matches and finally Natsumi Higashiuchi won the confrontation during the final match.
A successful World Championship with a rather deceiving result concerning the general averages of the players as it must be said that the quit good defensive play of the Japanese participants will have influenced for sure this average.
Congratulations to Ryuji Umeda who did lead his organizing team in a perfect way and NBA and ACBC President Gaku Nishio looked backward to a successful championship and expressed his satisfaction by confirming that the “experience could be repeated in the future”.
