Ho Chi Minh City, May 20th 2023

A newcomer in 2015, now a steady fixture on the UMB calendar: Vietnam’s metropolis Ho Chi Minh City will once again provide the backdrop for a World Cup, the seventh to be held there. The qualification rounds start on 22 May, and the main event final will be played on 28 May.

In a matter of eight years, Ho Chi Minh has established itself as a wonderful World Cup tournament where the top players have been inspired to perform at a superb level. Who can forget, just to name one match, the incredible final of 2018 with local hero Quyet Chien Tran as the winner? You simply can’t create better promotion for the sport of 3-cushion.

For the 2023 edition, fourteen players have been seeded: Jaspers, Tasdemir, Zanetti, Merckx, H.J. Kim, Sidhom, Blomdahl, M.W. Cho, Bury, Polychronopoulos, Q.C. Tran, J.H. Heo, Horn and J.T. Kim. The local wildcards were given to Duc Anh Chien Nguyen and Thanh Luc Tran, the UMB/AMECC wildcard went to Jordan’s Abu Tayeh.

The title holder, winner of the 2022 HCM World Cup, is Eddy Merckx.

As usual, the ranking points at stake will be 80-54-36-26-18-10-8. Group matches will be to 40 pts with equalizing inning, K.O. matches are to 50 without equalizer.

The tables in HCMC are Hollywood, the cloth is Classone B2 Black, the balls are Dynaspheres. All main event matches will be streamed and can be viewed via the YouTube channel of Five & Six.
