Ankara will start the 2023 World Cup cycle.

Most of the top players just finished a long event in South-Korea, and now they are getting ready for another major: the 2023 Ankara UMB World Cup from 6th till 12th February. A quick reminder: the 2022 World Cup cycle was won by Dick Jaspers, who is also the leader on the world ranking. This year, we can expect a handful of players to challenge him for that position, several of them from Asia.

Lausanne, February 4th 2023.

First-rate competitors such as Quyet Chien Tran, Haeng Jik Kim and Myung Woo Cho are much younger than Jaspers, Zanetti and even Sánchez. Can they close the gap in 2023?

The beautiful TBF Billiard Complex is once again the venue, and what a wonderful place it proved to be in 2022.

Fourteen players are seeded in Ankara: Jaspers, Sánchez, Zanetti, Sidhom, Tasdemir, Blomdahl, Q.C. Tran, Merckx, Sayginer, H.J. Kim, Bury, M.W. Cho, Polychronopoulos and J.H. Heo. The organization handed the two wildcards to Murat Naci Coklu and Berkay Karakurt, the CPB/UMB wildcard was awarded to Pedro Gonzalez.

The tables are Zeki Biliardo, the balls are DynaSpheres, and the cloth is Classone B2 Black. As last season, the ranking points are 80-54-36-26-18-10-8. The qualification tournament is fully booked with 144 players and a reserve list, indicating how popular the World Cups are. Many 3-cushion players from countries like France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark have found their way back into these events. The Turks, of course, show up in the largest numbers and they have a wealth of talent.
